meet the artist
(AKA: THE HEAD BUN IN CHARGE)
Kristyn is her name, and top-knots are her game. Oh, and this whole calligraphy thing!
All jokes aside, we are really glad you’re here.
Kristyn's passion for creativity is well founded.
Her mom is a watercolor artist and her dad is
a woodworker, so she likes to say that she was destined for artistic and creative greatness from the get-go. As a child (and still well into her adult years), Kristyn would doodle and write her and her friends names on anything she could get her hands on, often deemed by her peers as having the best handwriting around school. With a knack for graphic design that bloomed from being on her middle and high school yearbook staffs, it was a no-brainer for Kristyn to combine her two passions into a flourishing business. Kristyn is completely self-taught as a modern calligrapher and challenges herself every day to learn new techniques and develop her personal style, which is what she says makes this business and industry so unique and beautiful. Kristyn hardly considers this a “side hustle” since she is truly happiest when she's creating!
Kristyn lives in Houston, Texas with her four-legged furry assistant, Bear, a chocolate lab who is very good at being very cute (and may occasionally make appearances on the 'gram if you're lucky enough to catch him!). Kristyn graduated from the greatest university in the state of Texas - Texas A&M (can we get a WHOOP!) in 2014, and works by day in Development at UTHealth. In Kristyn's free time, you can find her exploring new restaurants and bars around Houston with friends, cooking live on her personal Instagram, or just vegging out on the couch with some wine and Netflix, as any millennial loves to do. Some of Kristyn's favorite things include munching on Sonic ice, dancing to live music, a well-timed "dad joke," twinkly lights on a patio, and any opportunity to hold a microphone to belt out some tunes (which more times than not, usually turns out to be a whisk or a hairbrush or a remote of some kind).

about us
It all started back in 2015, when one of Kristyn's best friends (shoutout to Lauren Roberts Lowe!) asked her to create a couple of chalkboard signs for her wedding reception. Chalk pen in hand, Kristyn got to work on her first commissioned project and loved every second of it. As custom orders from friends and family began to come in, it became clear to Kristyn that this hobby was becoming much more. A fire was lit within her, and thus, Bunnies and Boxwoods was born!.
Where'd the name come from, you ask? Inheriting an infatuation from her mother, all things BUNNY have been, and still are, a big part of Kristyn's life. See those little bunny ears in the logo? That's our homage to the great "Grover Cheveland," Kristyn's undeniably cute post-college impulse purchase. Grover was there when the dream was born, and although Grover is no longer with us, she'll forever live on through Bunnies and Boxwoods, standing tall and fluffy as our unofficial mascot. And boxwoods? Well, that just comes from Kristyn's love of the hedge itself (an unexciting revelation, no doubt) - there's just something so sophisticated and pristine about a perfectly shaped topiary that really makes her happy.
Kristyn would be remiss to not give praise to the wonderful and supportive people in her life who help her accomplish all things Bunnies and Boxwoods. When Kristyn says "we" - this is who she is talking about: her team, her backboard to bounce ideas off of, and sometimes, her extra set of hands when things get busy. Running a small business is often a group effort, and Kristyn is able to do what she's loves because of this circle. From daily emotional and mental support, to helping design and create some of the custom products you order, Bunnies and Boxwoods would not be what it is today without Kristyn's tribe (you know who you are and we are forever grateful).
We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to help bring your vision to life. Please say hello, look around, and get inspired for your next project. The possibilities are endless and we can’t wait to get started with you.
